Durihana’s operating expense is an astronomical amount. This includes the students’ meals and accommodation costs, education costs, salary of teachers ? the monthly building tax alone is about 20,000 dollars. Despite this reality, when I look around during worship service, I see people who only seek to receive than give.

For the past 23 years, Durihana has never owned a building or a single acre of land. We’ve never carried over the balance to the next month. To blasphemously rewrite hymn 445, we “walked in debt all of my journey, over the mountains, through the deep gorge.”

Nevertheless, the Durihana community has never gone hungry, and although there are many things we need, we’ve never felt that we lacked anything. Everyday, we experience God’s presence:  “I will rain down bread from heaven for you. The people are to go out each day and gather enough for that day.”(Exodus 16:4). “Water will gush forth in the wilderness and streams in the desert.”(Isaiah 35:6).

In 2021, six of the students who graduated from Durihana International School have received university admission decisions. Since these students are unable to receive support from the government or tier parents, we’ve formed a scholarship committee to fund the students’ tuition, dormitory, and other expenses related to their studies. “Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.”(Jeremiah 33:3) We held on to this promise and prayed, and God, who is faithful, did not disappoint us. We were able to finish registering every single student for a scholarship.

God loves orphans and widows: “the fatherless and the widows who live in your towns may come and eat and be satisfied, and so that the LORD your God may bless you in all the work of your hands.”(Deuteronomy 14:29); “Neither the pillar of cloud by day nor the pillar of fire by night left its place in front of the people.”(Exodus 13:22); “I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.”(Genesis 28:15); “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”(Deuteronomy 31:6). We are grateful that we were able to experience your tangible presence. Heavenly father, we dedicate all this glory to you.
